Dental Crowns & Bridges
Dental bridges and crowns are essential components of restorative dentistry. They have the power to fix teeth that are severely damaged and even fill in gaps in your smile due to missing teeth. The result is a smile that is full of strong, attractive pearly whites. At Market Dental in downtown Toronto, we’re proud to be able to provide both of these treatments to our patients. Dental crowns are tooth-shaped “caps” that are custom-made to go over a damaged, weak, or unsightly tooth. They may be made of metal, but many of our patients prefer all-porcelain crowns because they blend in so seamlessly with the teeth around them. The main reasons why you would need crowns for your teeth include, among others:
- A tooth just underwent a root canal
- A tooth is broken or cracked
- A tooth has a large filling
- A tooth is severely worn down
- A tooth has an unattractive appearance due to staining, decay, or other circumstances
Multiple crowns affixed together form a dental bridge, which replaces one, two, or several consecutively missing teeth. For those patients interested in replacing a single tooth or several consecutive teeth without damaging healthy dental structure, dental implant supported crowns or fixed bridges may be a better option. A single titanium post below the gums can be used to support a single dental crown, and two or more implants can be used to support a fixed dental bridge.
Disease, decay, and injury can cause serious trauma to teeth and gums, significantly impacting a patient’s oral health and appearance. But our expert restorative dentist, Dr. Stephen Koczerginski, can bring back your healthy smile using a full-mouth reconstruction that may involve several cosmetic and restorative dentistry procedures, including dental implants and dentures.
In the past, our team relied on silver-coloured amalgam fillings to restore decayed or damaged teeth. These restorations returned teeth to their natural form, but they marred the appearance of smiles. Dr. Stephen Koczerginski offers a more cosmetically and restoratively superior alternative – tooth-coloured, composite resin fillings. These composite fillings can be placed in a single visit, at Market Dental and because they are directly bonded to tooth enamel, they improve the strength and appearance of the damaged tooth. With proper care, tooth-coloured fillings can last as long as amalgam fillings.
